Oregon Teaching Certificate Programs
Below you’ll find a comprehensive listing of the Graduate Teaching Certificate programs available from schools in Oregon. Most of the programs down below are for people who are already teachers.
Don’t be fooled – even though advanced certificate programs don’t come with a master’s degree, they can still lead to a boost in pay for Oregon teachers. Many advanced degrees require 15 credit hours of coursework, which is enough to bump teachers to a new salary level in some districts. In Portland, for example, those 15 additional credit hours lead to around $1,600 extra per year for a beginning teacher, according to the Portland Association of Teachers.
An add-on certificate can also qualify you to teach a different, in-demand subject. Oregon has a shortage in a number of areas identified by the U.S. Department of Education, including bilingual education, math, science, and special education. Teachers in these areas are eligible to have their federal loans deferred or canceled. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are more than 3,400 special education teachers in Oregon, earning an average of $50,000 to $55,000, depending on what grade level they teach. The average secondary special education teacher makes around $2,500 more than the average secondary teacher in other content areas.
