If you are looking for a way to distinguish yourself in the teaching field and earn a bigger paycheck, you may want to consider National Board Certification. As of 2011, North Carolina has the largest number of Nationally Board Certified instructors in the United States. About 18 percent, or just over 19,000, of the teachers in North Carolina have obtained the certification, which leads to higher pay. The certification is considered the highest distinction in education in North Carolina. The road to National Board Certification is rigorous, though, and includes portfolio preparation and passed assessments. An add-on certificate or advanced certificate from a North Carolina university can help prepare you for the process.
